GoldenPass Express

From Interlaken to Montreux

The GoldenPass Express redefines the travel experience between Interlaken and Montreux.
Since in December 2022, the GoldenPass Express provides a seamless and even more comfortable travel experience on one of Switzerland’s most picturesque train routes. The new panoramic train of the Montreux Oberland Bernois Railway runs between Interlaken and Montreux four times per day in each direction, offering uninterrupted views of the breathtaking panorama.

The GoldenPass Express redefines the travel experience between Interlaken and Montreux. Thanks to the world premiere of the Montreux-Berner-Oberland-Bahn, guests can enjoy uninterrupted views for the very first time without having to change trains in Zweisimmen. The exclusive Prestige Class is at the heart of the new panoramic train and offers discerning travellers lots of privacy, maximum comfort in a small cabin and an exquisite culinary selection. How about a glass of Champagne and some fine caviar from Frutigen? The leather seats can be rotated by 180 degrees upon request, and
the seat temperature can also be adjusted.

Prestige is operated in addition to 1st and 2nd class. Reservations against a fee are mandatory in Prestige and strongly recommended for travel in 1st and 2nd class. The ticket price in the respective travel class is included for holders of a Swiss Travel Pass. The only downside? The trip already ends after 3 hours and 15 minutes. Most wouldn’t mind enjoying it a little longer.

Prestigious
The new Prestige Class is the centrepiece of the new train. The exclusive travel class offers discerning travellers everything they expect from an unforgettable train journey: plenty of privacy, maximum comfort in a small compartment, and an exceptional culinary offering.

Guests in Prestige can make themselves comfortable on the luxurious and heated leather seats, which can be rotated 180 degrees upon request. Prestige is also elevated by 40 cm compared to the other travel classes, giving guests an even better view of the fascinating scenery and allowing them to fully immerse themselves in it.

Culinary delights
Local and international delicacies can be ordered in advance, ensuring a perfect start to an exciting journey. For example, how about a glass of champagne and a portion of the finest caviar from Frutigen in Switzerland? Those who prefer to pamper their palate with rustic delicacies won’t be disappointed with the mountain plate or a vegetarian alternative.

While champagne and caviar are served exclusively in Prestige and 1st class, guests in 1st and 2nd class can also enjoy selected dishes from the small but exquisite bistro menu.

World-famous places, three regions
The journey on the GoldenPass Express is like a foray through Switzerland. The trip starts in picturesque Interlaken and continues via Gstaad, Château-d’OEx and Montbovon to Montreux, the journey’s final stop. Of course, guests can also start their trip in Montreux.

Swissness
The GoldenPass Express is a world-first and a Swiss masterstroke. After all, the idea of connecting Interlaken and Montreux without needing to change trains originated more than 100 years ago. The project never materialised, however, because of the different track gauges of the respective sections of the line.

But this seemingly impossible challenge could now be solved by an ingenious invention. The thinking at the time: if the track width could not be changed, the rolling stock must adapt. The innovative bogie on the train ensures that the train wheels can adjust to the new track width in a matter of seconds.

Design
The GoldenPass Express is not only a source of celebration among guests with an affinity for technology; the design is equally impressive. The form factor of the unmistakable train front bears the signature of the renowned Italian design studio Pinin farina. Innova Design oversaw the interior and some exterior elements of this new train.

Reservation
Due to limited seating capacity, reservations for travel in Prestige are mandatory (CHF 49) and strongly recommended for 1st and 2nd class travel. This is in addition to a valid ticket for the selected travel class.

Swiss Travel Pass
With a valid Swiss Travel Pass, nothing stands in the way of a trip on the GoldenPass Express. The pass covers the fare of the train journey, though seat reservations must be paid for separately.
The only thing that guests might find disappointing? The entire trip is over in just 3 hours 15 minutes. With those stunning views and unrivalled comfort, some might want it to last forever.
